Hi! I’m David Brazzeal, the author of The Pizza Kids.
I’m also a composer, which means I write music. Ballerinas and other dancers seem to like dancing to it, and some people use it in films and videos.
I’m also a labyrinth maker, which means I design twisty paths for people to walk. Adults like them because they help them slow down and think. Kids LOVE them because they can run around them until they’re exhausted.
I think stories, music, and labyrinths are really all the same thing — different ways of taking someone on an adventure and letting them find their own way through.
I love stories, music, adventures, old places, big questions, and of course, PIZZA. I’ve lived in different countries, learned to speak a couple of languages, and met people from many parts of the world. I’ve learned that every place has its own stories, sounds, and secret treasures.
When I’m not writing, you might find me making music, dreaming up new adventures, exploring a new country, or wondering what would happen if a group of kids opened the world’s most amazing pizza place.

Why Do I Write Children’s Stories?
I write stories for kids because stories can change how we see ourselves and the world.
I want to create places where kids are trusted — places where being brave, kind, and creative actually makes a difference. I don’t think stories need to lecture. I think they should let you laugh, explore, mess up, and figure things out. That’s how you learn what friendship and hope really mean.
I love imagining communities where neighbors know each other, differences are welcome, and kids get to do important things. Places where creativity matters more than being popular, and helping someone is just part of an ordinary day.
I also want readers to discover lives different from their own — new foods, languages, and ways of thinking. I’ve lived in several countries, and I’ve learned that our differences make a community stronger.
Some of my stories happen before smartphones took over. Not because I wish we could go back in time, but because I want to imagine a different kind of adventure — one with real friendships, big imaginations, and conversations that bring people together.
Most of all, I want you to finish one of my books believing you can change your world — as a better friend, neighbor, and problem-solver. It doesn’t matter if you live in a city apartment or a country farmhouse. You can make it kinder, more beautiful, more hopeful.
I write because making stories is one of the best gifts in my life. Every story is my way of saying thank you — and sharing that gift with you.
