CAY RICO — Island officials confirmed this week that Melon, the goat responsible for at least three separate radio outages this year, has once again been spotted near the antenna behind KOOL FM’s broadcast shack.
“We don’t want to point hooves,” said one station employee, who asked to remain anonymous, “but every single time reception goes fuzzy, Melon is standing right there. Looking very pleased with herself.”
Witnesses report Melon was last seen chewing through what officials describe as “a wire that was probably important,” before wandering off toward the market, where she reportedly startled two tourists, ate part of a sun hat, and was last seen “just standing near the fish stand, judging everyone.”
When reached for comment, Melon could not be reached for comment, on account of being a goat.
This is not Melon’s first appearance in the news. Longtime readers may recall her involvement in the Great Antenna Incident, the Mysterious Case of the Missing Welcome Sign Ribbon, and what locals still refer to only as “the Tuesday thing.”
KOOL FM has since installed a small fence around the antenna. Melon has already been seen standing on the other side of it, staring.
The investigation is ongoing. Melon has not been formally charged, as Cay Rico currently has no legal process for charging livestock, though several residents feel this should change.
